The MAC address filtering, though somewhat useful (and we use it),
is of little benefit against someone who's trying to break the rules.
As has been noted before, it's easy to reprogram it on most Ethernet
boards.

The anti-eavesdropping protection is much more important, since
that's controlled by the hub's notion of the proper MAC address.
