This is the first time I heard complaints about AOL people not being
able to distinguish between a regular and a group reply. Does their
mailreader interface not support this distinction?

Seems to me that the old list had an explicit Reply-To: field inserted.
Unless you're really sure that the AOL people can't do a private reply,
don't change this. If you want to add the Reply-To: field, change it
in the rc.custom configuration of the list.
